What Part Of Pertinent Is Mis-Understood?

dAAve left us a strong comment about his attempts to raise the Traditions as a topic at an AA meeting and being rebuffed by those who complain that the Traditions are not pertinent to their sobriety.
I feel exactly as dAAve does.

You’ll Get Out What You’ve Put In

And much, much more…
They (yeah, those old-timers) told me if I put half as much effort into getting sober as I put into my drinking I’d be okay. Now, this is not to say put in a half-assed effort. If I put in a half-assed effort I won’t be getting half drunk I’ll be getting […]

Established For Future Generations

The old-timer (when I got sober dAAve, the old-timers were old!) told me “they” had handed me/us a legacy. I looked at him confused, not knowing what he meant.
The Eleventh Tradition: “Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and […]

Expectations - Sneaky Subtle

My quick thought for today…
I develop expectations so cunningly. Without realizing it for over three weeks, the fact that my youngest son had contacted me was exciting at first, then discouraging as he spewed years of anger he’d built up without me, and finally, peacefully into the silence it is now. But something else was […]

Where There Is Sadness - Joy

Don’t forget - what the old-timers taught me about this has rung true in my experience, thankfully, and it will work for you too…
Pain shared in the rooms is cut in half,

Thank You HP!

Considered Absolutely Essential By Dr. Bob And The Old-Timers

I can’t hide its origin but I’ll ask you to see if you know where in the Bible it comes from…
I’m quoting it from my Life Recovery Bible which is a New Living Translation by Tyndale.
“If I could speak in any language in heaven or on earth but didn’t love others, I would only be […]

At One Time…

Black Friday meant that this morning would be very painful!
Not today! Thank God…
Just a quick note that I’m still working through the wonders of the after Thanksgiving retail world this weekend and will be back to entertain (lol) again Sunday. God Bless You and Thanks :)

“That” State Of Mind!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone :)
Please, be safe in your travels today and enjoy your time with your loved ones…
During this day, if you might “run” into someone who is having difficulty distinguishing whether or not they might have alcoholism, here is a State of Mind that could be referred to (Thank You Candy from the 12 […]

Where There Is Darkness - Light

“Into Action” tells us;
“More than most people, the alcoholic leads a double life. He is very much the actor. To the outer world he presents his stage character.
He wants to enjoy a certain reputation, but knows in his heart he doesn’t deserve it.
The inconsistency is made worse by the things he does on his sprees. […]

It Pays To Fact Check

Please folks, before you find yourself spreading misinformation as someone here has done, check your facts.
And don’t forget that alcoholism is a subtle foe - some who spread the wrong facts are doing so with an agenda that has been deviously supplied by our disease - big-shot-ism. One upmanship. Uniqueness. “I’m better than you.”
Friday I […]
