Contrary To Our Natural Desires
From pg. 55 in the 12 and 12;
“All of A.A.’s Twelve Steps ask us to go contrary to our natural desires… they all deflate our egos. When it comes to ego deflation, few Steps are harder to take than Five. But scarcely any Step is more necessary to longtime sobriety and peace of mind than this one.”
A marvelous lady, Patty P., taught me (among many others) that you either stand for something or you’ll fall for anything. For those who think I’m on a campaign, so be it. I’ve asked and received no replies. You are welcome, invited, to comment.
The Twelve Steps are about ego deflation!
So who the heck is teaching folks to mimic the words “I’m a proud member of such and such group?” Why are we patting people on the back and telling them it takes courage to return from a slip? They’re scared sh*tless! Desperation brings them back! There’s no courage in that - its stark raving fear! What’s with the soft-talk with a spiritual voice? Why do we have a first step meeting every single time there’s a newcomer? Why is AA adapting to the newcomer, rather than requiring the newcomer to adapt to AA?
And what the he** is this? “My sponsor is one of the finest members of AA that Alcoholics Anonymous has produced?” And - “AA is better because so and so is in it.” Come listen to so and so talk - great story! Since when is who’s speaking the qualification for attending a meeting? It’s not AA that is better for so and so being in it - its the world that’s better off because I’m a member of AA and not out there on the roads drunk still!
Whatever happened to “garden variety drunk?” Why are some of us still attempting to separate ourselves from the rest of AA? Are we not all a simple, single grain of sand on the beach? You know who you are!
This BS has the capability of sending someone to their death.
Rant over - sponsor next :-)
