Cross Addicted?
I did something that, reflecting back, many of us did and still do and will continue to do. As a spanking brand new green pea newcomer, once I developed the “courage” to raise my hand to speak in a meeting and, having heard something that somehow I found “useful” I said “My name is Mark and I’m an alcoholic and an addict.”
It is entirely probable that I also said I was cross addicted. I became an “anda.”
Before I go any further with this entry, let me repeat what my sponsor taught me;
If whatever you’re doing is working for you, please don’t change it on my account. If, however, you’re struggling, you might give serious consideration to changing.
Do you know why I said I was an alcoholic and an addict? This is my personal experience based on discussions with a “kick-ass” sponsor (I see you JJ) and those healthy growth spurts I experienced with my therapist :)
I didn’t want to be a real alcoholic!
I’m a real alcoholic!!!

That’s great! At meetings I always say “and I’m a real alcoholic.” My whole story starts on page 30 of the AA Big Book!

Regarding the “anda’s” my sponsor always says, “…put two bucks in the basket…” ;)
