Ego Deflation?
An oldtimer taught me that the 12 steps of recovery were all about ego deflation and I came to believe he was right. Our literature tells me that intellect and humility can co-exist as long as we place humility first. It has been my experience that when I am egotistical (oh yeah, happens a lot) I get myself in trouble more often than not.
So why, why, does it seem like it’s become “fashionable” at meetings here in this area (is it similar where you live?) that when someone makes an announcement about an upcoming AA event, they begin with
“I’m so and so, a PROUD member of such and such group.”
Would any oldtimers out there care to offer their insight?
