Good News Bad News
So there were these two Italian guys, Vito and Angelo. Vito and Angelo were born the same day, the same year, in the same hospital, lived and grew up in the same apartment building on the same block in Brooklyn, NY.
Of course they went to school together, were in the same classes, hung out together, played ball together, became interested in girls at the same time and double dated. They also began to drink together and found some trouble together.
Eventually they met sisters that they fell in love with at the same time and got married together, honeymooned together, moved into adjoining apartments. Vito and Angelo worked at the same job together for many years. Both families became parents at the same time. Vito and Angelo’s drinking got out of control together. They even spent some time in jail together. Time went on…
The time came when both Vito and Angelo had to get sober or die and they got sober together. Same sobriety date, same home group, different sponsors. Both continued to stay sober for many years. They no longer got in trouble. They became elder statesmen in their home group together. They traveled all over to other meetings speaking together, carrying the message, helping others, together. They were fine examples of Alcoholics Anonymous - together.

Vito spoke about the phone call informing him that Angelo was sick. They talked for hours daily for weeks while Angelo lay dying, about whether or not there was AA in Heaven. The time came and passed. Angelo was buried on the plot they bought together for their final resting place. Now Vito was alive, alone, missing his friend immensely and didn’t have an answer. So Vito did what AA had taught him to do. He went to meetings and he prayed and helped others.
For weeks/months, day after day, Vito prayed, “Please Dear Lord, send me a sign that Angelo is okay.” Never failing, never missing a day. He kept going to meetings and praying and helping others.
One night as Vito was praying he thought he heard that same deep, raspy voice he’d known so well. “Angelo, is that you?” “Vito! Vito my friend! Yes, its me Angelo!” “Oh Angelo, its so good to hear from you! Please! Tell me - how are you?”
Angelo replied “Vito, I have good news and I have bad news!” Vito excitedly asked “What’s the good news Angelo?” And Angelo told him “The good news is that there is AA in Heaven!” Vito exclaimed “That’s wonderful! Okay! What’s the bad news?”
And Angelo said “The bad news Vito is - you’re speakin’ tonight!”
