If You React - You’re Wrong
Tags: 12-Steps, alcoholics-anonymous, gratitude, RecoveryThis is a lesson I have had a long-term difficulty with but I’ve gotten better…
Unfortunately I am dealing with it again because I’m not perfect. Oh well.
From my personal experience and from the suggestions and experience of many who’ve helped me - if you react you’re wrong.
No matter what the cause and even if you feel justified, heck, you may even be 100% correct in the grand scheme of things, if you react, you’re wrong.
People can, and will, spew all sorts of “stuff” all over you, your name, your good character, your good deeds, your good work (get the idea?) and can say such incredibly awful things - but if you react, you’re wrong.
Character assassination. Lies. Spins. Childish remarks. Ego puncturing statements. Did I say lies? Hurtful, vile cr*p. Nasty beyond belief, outlandish garbage. Did I say lies?
And if you react you’ll wind up the bad guy even if you are the good guy.
Trust me on this one…

“We shall look for progress, not perfection.
Our first objective will be the development of self-restraint. This carries top priority rating.”
Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions page 91
I am a tenth step lover. It was pounded into my head in early sobriety. It has been a step that has helped me and continues to help me on more occasions than I care to admit ;)
