It Wasn’t My Life’s Ambition
I’ve heard it said many times in the rooms - it wasn’t my life’s ambition to be an alcoholic and a member of AA. I’m certain this thought applies within every single recovery group based in the original Twelve Steps.
It also wasn’t anywhere on my personal radar to somehow find a way to develop a manner of living that demands rigorous honesty and a positive attitude either! Yet, today, I am da** thankful that is the way my life has unfolded because the difference is nothing less than astounding and I’m happy despite some truly sick insanity that exists in my world. Imagine…
No, I’m not your doormat. Neither are you mine. I am not on this planet to live up to your expectations. You aren’t here to live up to mine.
The founders told us themselves that they realized they knew only a little. I know even less. I’m thankful I know what I know…
If God is for me, who can be against me? You??? I don’t think so!!! You can try but it won’t work, no matter who you are, including sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers et al.
More will be revealed is not an excuse for poor behavior. It is however, a wise attitude to maintain in light of maintaining the level of humility necessary to remain sober. I.E. if you’re trying to force on me that I am not a “real” alcoholic because I say I’m recovering rather than recovered, I can tell you to go to he** and be perfectly okay with that. :) [Just one small example]
So, today’s reading;
“A Thankful Heart”
“I try to hold fast to the truth that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits…”
Somehow I read that to say “try to force your will on me and I will righteously revolt with no guilt whatsoever.” Why? Because you aren’t telling the truth. To attempt to force you on me means, to me, that you are fully conceited therefore you’re heart is not thankful. Why in the world would I want to then be like you and cave in to your “demands.”
Sorry. It’s not happening. I’m grateful for what I have and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep it.
“When brimming with gratitude, one’s heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love, the finest emotion that we can ever know.”
Now, there’s the real deal!!!
