It Works It Really Does
Comes from page 88 in The Big Book
I haven’t done the research (too lazy lol) but I’ve been told this is the shortest sentence in our Big Book. “It works it really does.” Directly proceeding this sentence the Big Book says;
“We alcoholics are undisciplined. So we let God discipline us in the simple way we have just outlined.”
“But this is not all. There is action and more action. ‘Faith without works is dead.’ The next chapter is entirely devoted to Step Twelve.”
Thankfully. Thankfully because in the Daily Reflection today I cannot identify with whomever they quote. He/she says;
“When I got sober I initially had faith only in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. Desperation and fear kept me sober (and maybe a caring and/or tough sponsor helped!).”
When God got me sober I had no faith. I’d lost it. Desperation? I hear a lot of folks speak about the gift of desperation. I wasn’t desperate. I was sick and dam*ed tired of people bugging me about my drinking! I was angry. I was hopeless. I was willing to grab onto some small tidbit of anything resembling hope, which I believe is what I did.
My brain was too befogged to do much else.
