Of Myself I Am Nothing
“Of myself I am nothing, the Father doeth the works.”
From page 75 in AA’s 12&12;
“During this process of learning more about humility, the most profound result of all was the change in our attitude toward God. And this was true whether we had been believers or unbelievers. We began to get over the idea that the Higher Power was a sort of bush-league pinch hitter, to be called upon only in an emergency.”
You know what the two foxhole prayers are - don’t you?
The first is “Please dear God, get me out of this one and I swear, I’ll never do it again!”
The second? The second is - “phew………”
“The notion that we would still live our own lives, God helping a little now and then, began to evaporate. Many of us who had thought ourselves religious awoke to the limitations of this attitude. Refusing to place God first, we had deprived ourselves of His help. But now the words ‘Of myself I am nothing, the Father doeth the works’ began to carry bright promise and meaning.”

The gift of sobriety is too precious to waste time not spending every moment in the Fathers hands.
I used to spend every waking moment worrying
about past hurts, past this, past that. Then a fellow A.A.er led me down the path of daily Bible study. I’m no wher near perfect, but after daily study for going on three years and an additional 17 years of sobriety I don’t have to live in all of that pain and regret over and over again. Thanks for having the courage to blog your thoughts.

Alicia - Hi!
My first thoughts (which are usually for entertainment purposes only lol) is that this “article” is pure BS. If someone from Nashville drops by and says different I’d have to give it more consideration but right now I very much doubt “all the open meetings” in that area were surveyed. “We” aren’t normally open to something like that.
I’ll take another look at it tonight after work and see if my second thoughts are different :)

Wow! AA’s addicted to caffene and nicotine. Who’d of thunk it. (My 1st thought - for entertainment purposes.)
Anyway - today’s blog really hits home for me. I am fearful of ever telling my God, “Thank’s Lord, I can take it from here.”
