The Choice Is Ours
This comes from The Language Of The Heart page 315. The title of the article is;
Freedom Under God: The Choice Is Ours
And it is my personal opinion once again that the forces attempting to force their will on this Blog and on our recovery are “mentioned” herein.
Having begun by reminding us that “the immediate object of our quest is sobriety - freedom from alcohol and from all its baleful consequences” Bill moves on and says;
“In this freedom quest, we are always given three choices. A rebellious refusal to work upon our glaring defects can be a ticket to destruction. Or, for a time, we can stay sober with a minimum of self-improvement and settle ourselves into a comfortable but often dangerous mediocrity. Or we can continuously try hard for those sterling qualities which can add up to greatness of spirit and action - true and lasting freedom under God, the freedom to find and do His will.”
Immediately prior to this Bill says “we must attain some freedom from fear, anger, and pride; from rebellion and self-righteousness; from laziness and irresponsibility; from foolish rationalization and outright dishonesty; from wrong dependencies and destructive power-driving.”
I take the time to read the sometimes violently opposing views expressed here along with the poor attempts at diverting the real topic to another of someone else’s choosing. I get a “feel” for the anger and resentments proffered. I can certainly feel the attempts at power driving. I also see the outright dishonesty.
That is not sobriety talking. More than likely, that is the disease talking. The single most patient SOB on the planet. Cunning, baffling, powerful; but not more powerful than the God I understand!
