The Next Right Thing
I hear a LOT of people use this term “The Next Right Thing.”
You know - along the lines of “I have no idea what God’s will is for me today but what I do know is if I do the next right thing everything will be okay. I pass.”
Let’s see if I can keep this in the first person…
I believe this is exactly one of the many “thought processes” the oldtimers would have fetched me up on right quick! And may still need to fetch me up on. Why? Well, consider - what makes me so darn smart that I think I know what the next right thing is?
It somehow dawns on me, this is exactly why the original sober folks determined that we need sponsors! If I knew what the next right thing was I believe there is no doubt I wouldn’t have needed AA. I’d have already intellectualized myself into a drunk, insanity or death. Thank you “Crazy Bob!” Bob taught me early on that one of the most difficult, darn near impossible, things for an alcoholic to do is - ask for help!
A Sober, Clean Day To All,
Mark
