The Third Legacy

Page 160;
“Our Twelfth Step - carrying the message - is the basic service that AA’s Fellowship gives; this is our principal aim and the main reason for our existence. Therefore, AA is more than a set of principles; it is a Society of alcoholics in action. We must carry the message, else we ourselves can wither and those who haven’t been given the truth will die.
Hence, an AA service is anything whatever that helps us to reach a fellow sufferer - ranging all the way from the Twelfth Step itself to a ten-cent phone call and a cup of coffee, and to AA’s General Service Headquarters for national and international action. The sum total of all these services is our Third Legacy.”
From page 164 in the Big Book;
“But obviously you cannot transmit something you haven’t got. See to it that your relationship with Him is right, and great events will come to pass for you and countless others. This is the Great Fact for us.”
Please consider the flip side - if your relationship with Him is not right and you’re attempting to transmit something you don’t have… well, at the very least, great events will not come to pass for someone. If you’re going down another avenue and trying to transmit something you’ve made up from your own opinion or brain, I think most would very firmly suggest you backtrack and stop that completely - now! There are certainly other facts of our lives possibly in play here… deadly facts.
