They’re Not Always A Drinking Buddy

by Mark on September 18th, 2007

I met the woman who became my wife in a bar. In those days she drank, a lot. Then we got married…

I kept drinking, she stopped. I found lots of new drinking buddies through the years. I’m sure Bill W. did also yet the first remained the most important just like mine. And we both had one of these;

A kitchen table.

My last drink was at my dining room table but I consumed much alcohol in front of my wife at a table very similar to this one. This is the actual table that Ebby sat at with Bill when Ebby offered Bill a novel idea.

He said,”Why don’t you choose your own conception of God?” That statement hit me hard…it was only a matter of being willing to believe in a Power greater than myself. Nothing more was required of me to make my beginning.”

    Certainly, I could get nowhere in AA/sobriety until I found a power greater than myself. And that power could not be the God that was shoved down my throat for so many years.

    I hear that dAAve!

    Believe it or not, one of the challenges I had with “God” was He was called the “Father” and “Father” had such a negative connotation for my psyche I needed professional help to get past that…
