Thoroughness Pays Handsomely
“Constant vigilance is the watch word.”
And - “Thoroughness, we have found, will pay - and pay handsomely.”
Aaah - the Daily Reflection…
“Were these sins of omission? Because of my drinking, I had ‘dropped out’ - never sending cards, returning calls, being there for other people, or taking part in their lives. What a grace it has been to look at these relationships, to make inventories in quiet, alone with the God of my understanding, and to go forth daily, with a willingness to be honest and forthright in my relationships.”
Yep!
Since the reference for today’s reflection is page 80 in the 12 and 12, that’s my next destination.
“While the purpose of making restitution to others is paramount, it is equally necessary that we extricate from an examination of our personal relations every bit of information about ourselves and our fundamental difficulties that we can.”
So… restitution isn’t good enough eh - you “people” want me to dig even deeper huh? Wait! What was I willing to do to not drink today? Oh - anything? Whatever it takes? Well then, okay, dammit…
“Since defective relations with other human beings have nearly always been the immediate cause of our woes, including our alcoholism, no field of investigation could yield more satisfying and valuable rewards than this one.”
Satisfying and valuable rewards? Now you have my ear!
“Calm, thoughtful reflection upon personal relations can deepen our insight. We can go far beyond those things which were superficially wrong with us, to see those flaws which were basic, flaws which sometimes were responsible for the whole pattern of our lives. Thoroughness, we have found, will pay - and pay handsomely.”
Sobriety - - - good! :-)
