“We” Is The First Word
We is the first word in the first step. I personally don’t believe that is an accident. I believe that there is no way I could have gotten sober and stayed sober with myself, by myself. I had tried hundreds of times and I didn’t work alone :-)
Left to my own devices, since I debate with myself and come up with inane answers to my own questions and doubts, I am doomed to drink again UNLESS I remember that the first word in the first step is WE!
I heard these in meetings a long time ago and, thankfully, they are a couple of the many things that stuck, while making sense, to me.
“When I’m with myself, by myself, there is a fool talking to an idiot about an a**h*le.” And - The first letter in the word idiot is “I.”
All this to let you know that I’ve noticed that there haven’t been any comments left here in a while. Folks, you are invited to share your thoughts and feelings here. Please, if you feel like it, speak your peace…
